Moose are the largest of the deer family. They vary in shape and size. Their color varies from a little brown to dusty black, depending on the season and the age of the animal. Moose have long, lighter colored legs, with the front pair longer than the hind ones. Other features include a long nose, drooping lips, hump at the shoulders, and a flap of skin that hangs beneath their throat that is called a "bell". But the most identifiying thing about a moose, of course would be their enormous set of antlers or a "rack". Songaa's rack had fourteen points and was six feet wide. Mature males shed their antlers once a year and newer, larger ones grow back in the spring. |
