In the United States, grizzly bears can be found in the mountains of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington. They can eat anything humans eat, but 75% of their diet is vegatable matter-roots, grass, and berries (you remember how Lazoo got a belly ache, don't you?). Adult grizzlies can consume more than 50 pounds of food a day. And they can sure get big. Males can average from 320 to 800 pounds. There have even been reports of some bears weighing 1000 pounds! They weigh their most right before they hibernate for the winter, because bears may lose a third of their body weight during hibernation, since they get their energy by "burning" or using up the fat they stored during the summer and fall. |
